On Tuesday 12th April 2016, HESC staff visited St. Nicholas College, Baħrija Primary school to facilitate interventions with pupils and their parents.
Kinder 2 pupils were actively involved in a pupil centred session which encouraged the consumption of vegetables and fruits in our diet. During the Year 1 session, pupils explored the different, appropriate / less appropriate manners pertaining to social etiquette through a constructivist approach.
During the intervention ‘Milk Power’ targeting Year 2 pupils, the importance of milk and dairy products was emphasised. Preparing and consumption of healthy, balanced and tasty packed lunches was addressed during the Year 4 intervention.
As an extension of the sessions, all pupils and parents had the opportunity to taste fresh, raw vegetables and fruits provided by the school and prepared by HESC staff. All participants were fully engaged throughout sessions. They also stated that the sessions were informative and fruitful and recommended that similar sessions are to be facilitated in the future.
